The client

Mr and Mrs Walters who had recently retired to Monmouth.

What they needed 

They wanted to create a covered area along the side of their home that they could use every day to relax and entertain.

The challenges

Because the couple’s garden is not even, the solution had to span different levels, which meant the supporting posts had to be installed at different heights to create an overall level structure. 

Our solution

We discussed the project at length with the couple and explored the option of them either investing in an awning or a veranda. They decided they wanted a more permanent covering, so choose an aluminium veranda.

We installed the 8.5m x 2.5m veranda, which was specifically designed to run the width of the house, within the space of just two days. Using a gutter support profile, we reduced the support posts from four to three, which means Mr and Mrs Walters have an uninterrupted view and greater flexibility over the use of their newly-covered space.

This particular installation incorporated an aluminium anthracite powder-coated grey frame with clear 6mm toughened glass panels. The support posts were supported on concrete pads that were dug in the ground then covered over with the existing decorative gravel, providing sturdy and discreet fixings points.

The end result 

The end result is a veranda that can be used for entertaining and relaxing and has considerably extended the couple’s useable space. It complements the design of their modern property, creating an appealing, highly flexible space that overlooks spectacular views across the Monmouthshire countryside.
